NOVELIST

I'm a writer based in the beautiful North West Highlands of Scotland, living just a short walk from the shores of Loch Ness.

Originally from Lowestoft on the east coast of Suffolk, England, I spent my working life in the oil and gas industry, first as a librarian and information manager, and then as a business improvement and leadership coach in the Production, Trading and Shipping sectors. You'll see from the snaps above, of the wonderful Scottish Highlands and other equally exotic landscapes  (the Vikos Gorge in Greece, the Amalfi Coast, Mont Blanc, Peru and Madeira), that the outdoors is a really important source of relaxation and inspiration for me.There's something fundamentally liberating about donning a pair of walking boots, and waiting eagerly for the creative juices to flow.

After two stimulating and thought-provoking weeks  spent at the wonderful Moniack Mhor Creative Writing Centre, I now spend most days writing in the"snug" of our Victorian granite house, interrupted only by trips to the kettle and lunch with my lovely wife.

When not writing, or sitting around waiting and hoping for that perfect sentence to come along,  I'm usually buried head deep in the extraordinary talents of other writers, out walking in the hills, or looking for an excuse to enjoy one of the wide range of drams this part of the world is known for.

I also enjoy engaging with the thriving community of creative writers in the area, orbiting monthly around both Moniack Mhor, high on the Kiltarlity moor,  and the inspiring Inverness-based HighlandLIT organisation. If you live in the area, check them both out.
